Benefits of Energy Medicine
Want to start the New Year out with balance and clarity? A dose of energy medicine can get you started on the right foot.
Chakras (your body’s energy centers) are a vortex of spinning life force energy that are found at the central core of the body. The seven chakras are energetic parts of the physical body that transmits and receives life energy. Each chakra is associated with a particular frequency.
When these energy centers are out of balance, it creates a state of ill health, which can manifest as emotional, mental, or physical pain. This is because the life force energy is not flowing freely through the body. An unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, stress, and exposure to toxicity can create an imbalance in the chakras.
The good news is that chakras can be balanced by inviting them back to their natural state of vibration. Blocks can be cleared using Reiki, crystal healing, shamanic healing, and aromatherapy—as well as a combination of these healing modalities.
The Seven Chakras
Found at the base of the spine, the root chakra represents our foundation. A balanced root chakra allows us to feel grounded and safe in the world. The emotional issues associated with the root chakra are related to survival, such as money and food. An out-of-balance root chakra can manifest as financial instability, an unhealthy relationship with food, greediness, or depression.
Found in the lower abdomen, the sacral chakra represents our creativity, sexuality, and ability to connect to new experiences. A balanced sacral chakra allows us to experience pleasure and well-being. An out-of-balance sacral chakra can manifest as lack of creativity, low libido, co-dependency, and emotional over-reaction.
Found in the upper abdomen, the solar plexus chakra represents our self-worth, confidence, and ability to show up authentically in the world. When this chakra is balanced, we experience a healthy self-esteem. When the solar plexus chakra is out of balance, it can lead to an inability to maintain and set boundaries, low self-esteem, and anxiety.
Located in the center of the chest above the heart, this chakra represents our ability to give and receive love to ourselves and others. When the heart chakra is in balance, we feel joy, gratitude, and compassion. When it is out of balance, we experience jealousy, fear of abandonment, loneliness, and bitterness.
Located on the throat, this chakra represents our ability to communicate our truth. When the throat chakra is in balance, it easy to effectively express ourselves with kindness. When it is out of balance, we might find it difficult to express and realize our authentic truth in the world.
Found in the center of the forehead, it is also known as the brow chakra. It represents our intuition, imagination, and wisdom. A balanced third eye chakra helps us to find our life direction and stay on course. When out of balance, our perception of life can become negative. We may find it hard to let go of the past or feel fearful of the future.
Found at the very top of the head, the crown chakra represents our connection to the divine and our ability to connect with the divine guidance of the Universe. When in balance, we feel connected to our spirituality and growth. When out of balance, we might feel blocked and disconnected spiritually, which can lead to a feeling of isolation.
Aromatherapy is a type of alternative therapy that uses essential oils and other aromatics to improve a person’s health or mood. It is believed that the inhalation of essential oils stimulates the part of the brain connected to the olfactory system. This sends a signal to the limbic system of the brain that controls emotions. In turn, chemicals are released that make us feel relaxed, calm, or even stimulated. When combined with Reiki, the effects of aromatherapy can include an increased sense of well-being and a deeper sense of relaxation.
Energy healing also is referred to as energy work and includes such practices as intuitive energy healing and Reiki. These modalities work with the transfer and direction of universal life force energy to help strengthen and balance one’s energy field as well as clear energetic blocks. This helps support the healing process.
A healing form of vibrational medicine, crystal healing therapy uses crystals to facilitate healing and balance the chakras. The practitioner places specific stones on the client. The stones are chosen based on the healing properties and energy needed to most effectively support the client in finding balance.
It is believed in shamanic healing that we become damaged as we go through life. Someone who suffers a trauma might lose some of his or her soul, which leads to making the person vulnerable to illness—both mental and physical. A shamanic arts practitioner calls on Spirit to help restore the portion of the soul that has been lost or damaged. A shamanic healing session could include drumming, rattling, and chanting.
